A million years ago when I was very young, when all my friends were playing with dolls, I was the kid who set up a store that everyone would would bring their dolls to shop at.
I would set up 'departments' where rose petals were medicine, certain pebbles were jewellery, and the leaves off certain trees and bushes would substitute for different monetary denominations. Every hot summer's day, in my imagination, I would become the purveyor of rare and intriguing artefacts that would be sold alongside such staples as doll clothing and jewellery.
Approximately half a century later, I find myself re-enacting my childhood play - but now I have the opportunity to offer real customers beautiful items for their homes, their bodies, and for their spirits.
I'm the lucky person who wakes up in the morning excited about what new and beautiful things I'm going to discover today - and every day is Christmas when the deliveries arrive!
This is why I'm SO excited about our jewellery! We sell only 925 Sterling Silver, which means every single piece is something that will only look better as it ages. Sterling silver has a warm glow that only seems to mellow and deepen with age, and it's so easy to clean.
Because of that, I won't (not 'can't' but 'won't') sell anything that's treated with Rhodium. What's that, you ask? Rhodium is really another metal; most of its uses are industrial, but a while back, some clever person decided that if silver jewellery was dipped or plated with it, it would be shinier and more attractive. And that's very true - for about 2-3 years.
After that, the Rhodium begins to wear off, and any Sterling Silver piece that's treated with it will begin to look like it suffered a bad sunburn and the skin is peeling off. Not only is its mottled appearance unattractive, but unless you're willing to send it off to be stripped and recoated (which is cost prohibitive and puts you back to Square One), that beautiful Sterling Silver pendant you fell in love with is now unwearable.
Everything I sell is just polished 925 Sterling Silver, and can be cleaned with a jeweller's cloth or silver polish and will last forever with normal wear.
One of my favourite pieces is a primitive Goddess pendant (https://goo.gl/BhYZHB) with a beautiful Moonstone inlaid in it, as if she has reached out and grasped the moon in her hands. (Imagine how excited I was when I saw there were matching earrings!)
I personally love Moonstone. It's my 'traditional' birthstone (Ruby was designated as the July birthstone much later on.) It has always struck me as a mysterious stone; holding its secrets below its surface. One old story about Moonstone is that as the Moon in the sky waxes and wanes, you can see its phases reflected in the changes of a piece of polished Moonstone. Being naturally sceptical, I wanted to see this for myself after purchasing a Moonstone ring - and sure enough, each month I could see it lighten as the Moon waxed and darken as the Moon waned.
Did you know that because Moonstone was considered to be a stone of prophecy, that ancient oracles used to wear it as a talisman? It's said to enhance psychic abilities, and I have to admit I'm even more 'in tune' when I'm wearing one. I also tend to wear or carry one if I'm going to be doing any 'Moon magic' as it kicks the magical energy up a notch or two if it's used during ritual.
I also got pretty excited about all the beautiful Sterling Silver Pentagrams and Pentacles I found. The quality of the workmanship is superb - and nothing gets me more excited than a piece of jewellery that's not only stunning to look at but exquisitely worked!
I especially love the Pentagram pendant framed in a semicircle by all the phases of the moon (https://goo.gl/criYtA). The phases are so tiny, but beautifully detailed. And then there are the Angel Calling Bells...the tinkling of the little silver bell reminds you that your Guardian Angel is close by every time you hear it.
One of the most frustrating things I've encountered in buying for the website is finding quality jewellery for men. It's not that jewellery isn't available but the quality is terrible, and quite honestly, looks like something a teenager with bad taste from the 1970's designed it.
That's one of the reasons I was so thrilled with the Green Man pendant (https://goo.gl/QBwjey) I found! It's not huge and screaming with testosterone, but beautifully detailed and masculine; really a perfect balance between some of the very feminine jewellery we sell.
I could go on and on about the gorgeous things we sell - but rather than taking my word for it, why not check it out yourself? (I just got a catalogue from a potential new supplier...and oh the jewellery they have!)
